After bringing my baby out from under it's Just Kampers cover I've noticed a couple of small holes in the outer skin on my front beam, indicated below on a pic I nicked from the net. They don't appear serious, but enough for my to ask for anyone who really knows and has maybe been here before. The axle is always greased properly, and the van is well loved, so I'm miffed and a bit frit too! I have the go ahead this year from the 'purse keeper' to put some deserved TLC into the van, but I wasn't counting on this, I reckon she was thinking rugs and kitcheny bits! Sorry if this should be in another area, but can't find anything relevant. Cheers all
Hmm sorry to hear that that's not nice at all as a cheap fix can be welded but it will have to look nice or the mot man will fail it hope this helps
This is common as that part gets all the dirt and spray fired at it off the wheels good idea to check this area and paint it well as a Stone Chip can soon turn rusty in our lovely climate
Weld it up - not a problem. Try and find someone to do it properley and it'll last for many more years.
It does need welding up, or the MOT man will object. The "horny" things always rot - they're just thin pressings. They're not really structural. You could tell the missus you're having the beam fixed, then spend the money on drink and loose women. Just a thought...
getting a rust free beam from the states has to be a option ,it only takes a couple of hours to pop another on ,if you know what you are doing... Takes the stress out of will it fail the mot..
cant see the pic big enough Mine was not to bad but the more i poked about the worse it got so decided to replace it I added it all up a 2nd hand rust free beam, new steering pin,new bushes and adjusters welded on and decided it was better to buy a new beam form http://www.creative-engineering.com...art&page=shop.browse&category_id=25&Itemid=26
Lowering slightly and treating myself to some BRMs has long been a bit of a dream......this may force my hand, though i am going to try and find a decent welder to give me a quote first. That really is quite a sexy beam matty! Any pics of your van? Love to see it's stance....Cheers.
standard width set at about 4" drop standard wheel/tyres it will go lower but it starts to bottom out on the wheel arches
