Not sure if it's of any use but I took my 1.8 type 4 engine out for the first time yesterday and the setup worked great. I though I'd share it as it might help others. 1) I drove the rear wheels onto a set of standard ramps. 2) The I jacked the front level and supported it with axle stands. 3) I bough a low level, high lift (race car) jack from Machine Mart. This offers over 300mm lift. 4) Replaced the lift pad with a 6mm thick metal plate. 5) Added two layers of high density foam board. 6) Put a sheet of 3/4 board under the van to lift from. The engine lowered perfectly and pulled off the gearbox OK. Then it rolled out without even taking the airfilters off.
That's great to know, I've been thinking about a set for a while but didn't like the idea of reversing onto them. Probably the same as driving forward but just feel more comfortable driving onto then
