My engine out setup

  1. Not sure if it's of any use but I took my 1.8 type 4 engine out for the first time yesterday and the setup worked great.

I though I'd share it as it might help others.

    1) I drove the rear wheels onto a set of standard ramps.

    2) The I jacked the front level and supported it with axle stands.

    3) I bough a low level, high lift (race car) jack from Machine Mart. This offers over 300mm lift.

    4) Replaced the lift pad with a 6mm thick metal plate.

    5) Added two layers of high density foam board.

    6) Put a sheet of 3/4 board under the van to lift from.

The engine lowered perfectly and pulled off the gearbox OK. Then it rolled out without even taking the airfilters off. IMG_3508.JPG IMG_3510.JPG IMG_3509.JPG IMG_3518.JPG

  2. Do you just drive forward into the ramps instead of reversing onto them?

  3. Yes I drive forwards onto them. If I try and reverse the hit the exhaust.

    SeanOC likes this.
  4. Nice one :)

  5. That's great to know, I've been thinking about a set for a while but didn't like the idea of reversing onto them. Probably the same as driving forward but just feel more comfortable driving onto then :)

  6. Like your approach to engine removal, am planning to do that in the winter so gotta remember that.

  7. I like that a lot!!!

  8. Wish I had thought of that, I have twa&&&&ted my exhaust so many times! Simples! Thanks for sharing
