  1. Just picked up a Chrome Yellow Westy Last night it's a 2ltr Westy Campmobile drove beuatifully back from Newport to Chippenham and seems a really solid original bus... well happy :)

Quick question of many I'm sure, anybody know if this badge is Standard or some aftermarket never noticed one like it before

Also anybody know what the deal is with the wheel covers they have the wolfsburg logo in the middle of them so wondering if they are some sort of original optional extra as never seen them before.

Plan is to tidy up bodywork most has already been done and get a full respray.. will post some more pics when I get to see it in the daylight.

  2. Can't help you with your questions - but welcome from Lancashire anyway - have fun.

  3. Nice bus! Does the badge sit on a raised plinth on the front panel? might be a later brazilian front clip

  4. Nice bus, show us the insides! We always like to see the guts of the things we drive and sleep in !!!

nice looking westie (but I am biased towards the colour)!

The front looks like it may have a small badge plinth, ours has the raised plinth but its hidden behind the spare wheel (the panel is replacement on ours).

Are the wheels alloys or wheel trims?

  6. Thanks for the comments.

The front panel looks to be original and does not have a raised plinth, the badge is like a hollow piece of plastic I need to investigate closer but it looks as if if you remove the screws from either side of it it will open in 2 and you could hide something in it if you get what I mean.. bit like a chocolate coin wrapper :)

The wheels are covers on original steels.

I will get some interior pics once I'm home and it's daylight..

Just took this last night in hope it might tell me something

The interior looks all standard but only has sink and no cooker which seems a bit rubbish.

It came with a 'Brand International Awning' which fits to a rail mounted on the gutter anyone heard of this brand of awning ? google is not being very fruitful. I have the manual for it and looks as old as the bus ! Got some good history with the van.. looks like it started life in the US then was imported to Holland where the PO bought it in 1997 whilst living out there then imported it back to Wales with him in 1999. Have got Original Manual, load of bills and original Warranty & Maintenance book which is nice. It also had a new Remtec engine 4000 miles ago which is a bonus.

We don't worry about that, we do our cooking outdoors!

  9. looks nice. does it need a full re-paint? have you tried polishing up what you have first?

  10. I think polish is a big ask, I maybe able to get away with a part respray but the guy I'm intending to get to do it is a bit of a perfectionist so will want to do it all. He's coming to have a look tomorrow so will find out then.

shot of the underside from PO when he had a load of work done a couple of years ago.

Found some info on wheel trims and looks like they were optional extra's bonus.

Think I've got the chrome plated steel ball too (2) :)

I'd be more worried about the broomstick propping the bus up than owt else

  12. Looks nice and solid though so just a re spray ,no massive welding and parts bills

  13. Nice looking Bus and looks solid :)

  14. Anyone know what the deal is with the bit of trim on the door? should that go all round the bus? will def be losing that it looks odd.

Van also has a locker under the van for putting stuff in you can just about see it under the sliding door !

Also has one of these extra handles on the sliding door is this a Westy/ late bay thing? never seen one before

  15. That extra handle is for shutting the sliding door without having to slam it. It allows you to shut the door at a campsite without disturbing the curtain-twitching wife-swappers in their white boxes.

  16. That's the same colour and interior my bay used to be. Looks spot on.

It looks like that trim used to be on the drivers side as well if you look at the workshop pic?

As you've found the wheel trims are from the VWoA catalogue.
The inner handle is pure VW. In the Westfalia owners manual they called it the "silent handle" and it's a gem of an idea.

Good luck with the colour. I don't know what it is about chrome yellow but it's a darn pain to match. This I know because mine is too. The shade was changed in 1977 from a yellow shade to a more orange shade.

Also what is it with Buses you buy one then another one turns up on your doorstep for a price you can't refuse.... So 1 early and 2 late bays fun times.

1977 Twin slider - Runs and Drives Sweet.. Looks Solid underneath (MOT man will no doubt confirm or deny this later this week) but needs a bit of panel work.
