  1. Decided instead of spending time exploring my area is to every week I could write a article of free camping or almost free in different villages...

    http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Porchaire

The camping bit [looks a bit bleak because it is winter]

    Water and poo poo

    little park for the kids..

toilers ,in the background a supermarket with 24 hr petrol...

The camping is 2 minutes from the main street ,hairdresser/breadshop/pizza/vets/banks/restaurants/brochante etc

If you like big houses with gardens then Château de la Rochecourbon is just up the road...

This village is just off the main road from La Rochelle to Saintes and ideal for a overnight stop...

Tune in next week for another...

    {if you want certain things included let me know}

  4. Great idea - thanks for this. We're hoping to go to France this year, so it might come in handy. Maybe a link to a map of each one's whereabouts might be useful (or am I just being really idle here??!!)

EDIT - sorry - just spotted the Wiki link! Doh!

Great idea. The camping spots certainly look more enticing than the "free spots" dotted around OZ.

  16. La palmyra, one of my favourite coast lines the cote savage is brilliant for surfing and bodyboard the Atlantic breakers can be awsome we will be heading here in the summer as we have done for the last 18 yrs, any one going to France should head here August can be very busy, weather is usually warm enough from late May onwards,
    Steve,

  17. We have just returned from La Palmyre too. Had a 3 week treck around but spent 11 nights here as we like the area. Nice and wild.
Watch out for wild boar in the forests!
We stayed at Camping Atlantique Forêt this time for 12 euros per night. Lovely and quiet in June :)

  18. Mucka,
St Malo is a good place to dock, you don't have to travel far to get to some nice places.
We stayed at Camping Municipal Pont de L'Etang, which is about 30miles west of St Malo at Cap Frehel
Again, beautifully quiet in June but will be a bit more hectic in Aug. There are over 600 pitches.
Here was ours, the beach is just over the dune:

the night before I did try and use the municipal but the barrier was too low ,just down the road was a lovely spot...
