MOT Vs Tax

Right, just tried to tax the van but as my MOT expires on Sunday they wouldn't do it. Well they would, but only if the new disc had a start date of 1st March instead of 1st April. Now I don't begrudge paying tax but I'm certainly not paying for a month I don't need.
Now my quandary is this: I probably won't have time to get to the post office before the MOT on Tuesday, so can I drive to a pre-booked test without tax? The useless bint in the post office said "you can as long as you don't get caught!" but I think this is wrong? My understanding was that it was ok but she got me thinking?
It's only a few miles but as I:
    A) have a job
    B) pay my taxes
    C) don't live in a caravan
    D) have no criminal record
...you can guarantee I'll get stopped and the Feds will decide I'm an easy target and haul my arse to court.
So, who's right, me or her?
    Cheers

    Cheers Mr. Dox.
All booked in so no probs.
    :)

  4. Theoretically it's supposed to be the nearest MOT station to your house (or where the vehicle is kept) but you'd have to find a right b**tard copper for them either to know that or care enough to work it out.
I've been stopped going to a pre-booked MOT some 35 miles from my house (and well past a dozen MOT centres) and they just phoned and checked and all was well.

Cheers. It's only a few miles away so should be all good.
Top Banana Racing, let me know if you want me to take those slats to Tekenders (assuming you're still in Bristol next week)

  6. As far as I know I will be.
Collecting trailer on Thursday and collecting @konaboy6284's bus at the weekend.
Have slats here ready for Ermintrude.

  7. The only requirement is it's pre-booked, and you have valid insurance. Copper's discretion over whether he thinks you're taking the pee over which test centre or not.

  8. Yeah pre-booked you can , I did from Whitby :)

Check and check so all is good.
The test centre is less than 3 miles away and is the place I've used for 6 years so I'm sure it won't be a problem.
If I get stopped I'll just pretend I'm a pikey and they'll let me go anyway.

  10. Very intresting reading, what you have to remeber is most coppers are text book orinentated. But cant think.
example many years ago i was on nights and knew every inch of the road to work. ok. this one stretch i got stook behind a artic, saw a gap knew there was a hair pin bend ahead and went for it. got back in before the hair pin, also may i add, no headlights could be seen aproaching hair pin in oppersit direction. any way a marina followed me. i was in a 2 litre ford consul, not as quick as a 3 litre granada,
any way 4 miles later thu a village correct speed . on the way out copper put his hat on and pulled me.
the copper said 'in a hurry sonny'', not as much as you. that artic you overtook you got back in on the hair pin, if a car been coming the other way, you or some one could of been dead. oops he let me off with a warning, and said if i carrrried on driving like that i would end up dead, Like wise i replied cherio...

  14. I'm always impressed at people who know "most" if whichever group they're talking about .... Obviously a wide circle of friends ;)

  15. I'm a tester (motorcycles) and have often heard the nearest MoT station spiel. You can take your van to the station of your choice the only stipulation AFAIK is by a direct route.
