MOT tomorrow

  1. Well its finally MOT time for the project Bay impulse purchase that we made earlier this year.

Had a full retrim postpone in the workshop last week so took the opportunity and dragged the Bay in for the once over.

It had been fitted with new heads in the States but whoever fitted them had managed to trap one gasket so it wasn't sealing and they also managed to strip the threads off two rocker studs!

New gasket, rocker studs, plugs and a couple of vac hoses on the fuel injection system changed and gotta say i havent heard a sweeter running aircooled motor :) even looks like fresh oil in there, cant wait to road test it.

Only other thing that we had to do was change the headlights to RHD and sort a couple of bad earth issues out, even the interior courtesy lights and washers work without drama!!

Hopefully shouldn't be much (if anything) on the fail list which is good coz ive got to get cables and seals for the factory sunroof ordered and they cost a packet.

Cant decide if we should run it as a shop truck next year or to press it into action as the family daily hack being a micro bus.

    Keep you all posted.

    Keith.

  2. Failed on split cv gator and US spec side lights in the indicators.

Result!!! Not bad saying the bus was lying in a salvage yard about to be scrapped :)

Get these bits sorted out then get it registered.

Who MOT'd your bus for you Keith?

Last week I had our (ex US) westy down at Absolute VW, we have successfully passed the MOT for two years with us spec sidelights in the indicators, his words are if its fitted with them since factory build, his MOT man will pass them

you can always put white markers in the headlights and keep the amber as running lights, modern cars like discovery and bmw do this and it's fine.

  11. Well done, hopefully mine will go just as good this month! :)

snotty, mork gets a pass with amber only - if as built tester can use discression, i have the same but i fitted white sides in the headlights and was told i didn't have to.

yep as Rick said - its got headlight only lights (ie no sidelights downstairs) with the amber sidelights in the indicators!

Its passed at two seperate MOT stations now - Absolute VW will be the third - they all say the same story, as its factory, no problem!

  15. Just checked up and the official line from VOSA is that an imported vehicle must have white front side lights not amber to pass a UK MOT/SVA test.

Not complaining though think im gonna fit clear lenses with amber single filament bulbs for the indicators, the small built in marker lights should do for the side light requirement. That way will be easy to switch back to US spec after i get a pass :D

May take it to same place as Absolute take theres in Donnington next year.

you'll need to change the light bulb fitment if you want to go "clear lens" as the bulb is twin filament 21/5watt like brake light bulbs, you can't get an amber one although you could paint some with bulb paint and cut the feed to the side lamp feed.
