Moonraker roof Question ?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Flying Pig, May 1, 2013.

  1. Hi all , i am coming to the end of finishing the van and have the roof hinges removed to carry out some paint repairs underneath on the o/s gutter . I do however want to take the van for mot asap . 1. to give me the motivation to get it totally finished for ''NOW'' and to find out if anything else needs doing before i start using it for real . Would the roof stay ''put 'on a 5mile journey in light winds at say 50mph and is there any requirement for mot for this . I know its a dam heavey roof but i have heard of people having to strap the roofs down on some earlier posts. All advice would be great , cheers :chewie:

  2. Which Moonraker roof ,double top or standard pop top?

This doesn't sound like it'll end well....

Flying Pig and Lord Congi like this.
  5. I'd strap it down VERY firmly for such a journey. Better still would be to finish the job first. When the roof is properly fitted, the three hinges and two clasps are all that's needed.

  6. I reckon your all Right Lol ! Baysearcher i had to laugh at that , :D. I guess i'm getting impatient now as i started the resto 8 years ago this August !
I suppose another few weeks wont hurt but when the suns out and theres shows happening its a bit much for me :( . Cheers for the replies and advise fellas ,oh and its a full length roof by the way Lord Congi

  8. Just a thought ? how much do these full length roofs weigh ? are they easy enough to remove for painting , cleaning back ready for paint ?. What is agood product to clean them off with ? . Cheers again for the help and ideas fellas

  9. Fitted one on my own but it wasnt ideal and I had to slide it on from the front (Heavy)!

  10. Cheers Dicky , was it a pain to redo the canvas ?
