Hello, I bought a new roof seal for my moonraker to replace the current worn one. I bought this type: https://www.alanhschofield.com/ourp...MoonrakerViking-Roof-Seal-6879-211898175.html The one that’s on is just an edging strip like this: https://www.alanhschofield.com/ourp...ging-Strip-Sold-Per-Meter-All-Years-5092.html anyway, on inspection to install it, the old one goes behind the hinges and I was hoping to not have to remove the roof to install the new one. I have a couple of questions for anyone who has changed the seal: -what does the seal actually seal, and is the one I bought above more suitable than the edging strip? -can I just cut the old one off between the hinges and leave that old edging strip behind them? I was thinking I could get to it by unscrewing the canvas on the inside, assume that will give me access and I can just cut the old one with a Stanley knife. Thoughts?
I might be wrong but they look the same, i fitted the edging strip on mine but i had the roof off to make fitting easier. My strips finish at the hinges , when the weather is better i will clear seal between the roof and the seal to stop water ingress into the metal clips.
From the description I'm guessing the seal you've bought looks similar to this with the "bulb" section on the edge of the u channel? I've used a similar seal on my baja bug's bonnet (although the bulb is on the side, not the edge). The bulb section is designed to compress against a surface to form the seal, so for your roof I'd expect it to to be sealing the poptop against the tin roof to cut down on any wind noise.
@JamesLey i looked at this seal, but decided against it, if the roof is down for a long time it holds all the water in the gutters, possible rust trap!!!
