  1. Hi Folks
On my way back from a music festival yesterday fully loaded with 2 friends onboard , van (1600 twin port) started to run a little rough about 20 miles from home. Hmm dirt in the carb or bad plug I thought.
Got her up on the two poster today and
Cleaned the carb main jet - no dice
Ok let’s replace the plugs one by one starting with no3 - imagine my surprise to find the plug lead just lying on the tinware, put it back on and problem solved!!!!
Thing is it didn’t feel like I was only running on 3 -felt more like 3.3/4 cylinders
Testament to how tough they are

I think a lot of old hippie buses drove around with three cylinders, as they will still make it down to the beach and back again.

I once ignorantly drove halfway across the mountain region of one side of southern Italy before I realised I was a piston down. It was fixed miraculously at the side of the road by a yokel mechanic who wouldn’t take any money for the repair at all, and he’d cannibalised another engine of his for the part. One of the wonderful things of owning a dub back then was most people with any knowledge could fix them. I didn’t have any knowledge!

I went to a machine that was slightly down on power once , started ran and sounded fine, looked over the engine to see if there was anything to see , there was , a massive hole with a con rod and piston hanging out , we rented it out as a lower powered machine for a looonnggg time before it gave up :)
