Misfire !!!!!

  1. Took the carbs off last night ,the floats were set right and the valve was working correctly and all the jets are the ones recommend by way out westie . There was a bit of dirt in the float bowl so cleaned it all and blasted it all through with the air line . no detectable air leaks ,Reset everything and it seems to be running better but I can take no1 or no3 plug lead off and nothing changes but it doesn't sound like it's running on 3 cylinders ! I've turned in the idle screw 1/2 a turn but now struglng to tick over . Not there yet but heading in the right direction (I hope )

  2. I assume you cleaned the idle jets etc at the same time?

  3. Yes took them all out and cleaned them , I think I just need to up the idle a bit then re balance them and see from there . On the plus side it goes much better now ,it actually feel like it's accelerating !!!!

  4. What engine is it? I found Wayoutwestie’s recomended jetting for a std 2.0 type 4 too rich. He recommended 165 mains 185 airs.
Mine runs better on 155 mains 175 airs. So might be worth a bit of experimenting.

  5. It's a 1600 twin port.
    I've got

145 mains, 165 airs, 55 idles, f3 emulsions, 150 float jets, which is what he recommends so I think I just need to tinker with them for a while. I borrowed a snail meter so the endless balancing after every adjustment isn't so bad.

  6. Do you have a balance pipe fitted?

  7. No balance pipe ,there's no fittings in the manifolds for one .

  8. Took the manifolds off tonight ,drilled and tapped them ,fitted a balance pipe . Put it all back together and ....... Ticking over nicely on all 4 cylinders .
    thanks for all your help
