Mechanical fuel pump leaking from small pipe ?.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Flying Pig, Apr 11, 2020.

  1. Hi all ! Am I right I'm thinking that my fuel pump is fubar as there is fuel dripping from the small drain pipe?. I remember hearing this happens when the diaphragm splits ?. There is no oil drip ?. Any advice ? Cheers Mick

Yes, that's it's breather that should have air in it. It should have a hose into the sled tin to keep crud out and damp out, similar idea as the servo breather.

  3. Cheers Zedders . So the diaphragm is ruptured letting the fuel through?. I had greased the back of the pump when fitting years ago so I reckon that stopped the oil at the early stages ? ..New electric or mechanical pump ?.

I've never had one apart. When I were a lad there weren't parts available to service them but there could be now? I have an electric pump for that reason but I'd rather have fixed the mechanical one. Elec pumps are expensive and they don't last as long as the mech ones did.

  5. It's a shame mate . This one has lasted years although not much mileage on it . I'll see if I can get a replacement diaphragm?. What are recommending for electric without pressure problems?

I'm not recommending other than rotary pumps are quiet. I don't think the one I have is particularly great, I've seen them either leak or grind to a halt still looking fairly new and it was £90. I also had to control it's pressure for my DRLAs - I imagine with the gauge that probably cost the same again. Madness!

It's easy to get carried away and just get them what they want (you want). I was going to change my exhaust system for a better one this year just to see if it goes faster as I've convinced myself it will. Oh dear. Virus reality check, put it off indefinitely. :(

  7. I've just read on another post regarding grinding the top welds off a replacement t1 diaphragm and swapping over ?. I've got a brosal pump with same size diaphragm so I'll give it a go , spot welding back onto existing could be a problem?. Lol

Plenty of time to research spot welders too..
