  1. With the hum drum of roadside mechanics my heart lays elsewhere -

Custom Fabrication and 2nd hand parts sales

Sooooo i may kick of by offering custom overriders - wheel tubs for you low lifes - engine bay top chassis panels - Plus a web based 2nd hand parts base for Vw - I nay in time move into panel repairs door skinning etc -
Is there a need for a little business nothing mad nothing big very low key.

A living? I think you'll struggle to fill your hours in a paid way for a while at least, but good luck.
Maybe build a name first. I like your overriders. Tubs for the sedate late bayers? You'd have more luck with the pipe and slipper lot believe it or not.

  5. Go for it Dale, there's always a market for that sort of thing, be it on the side though! especially door skinning....mine are fuchs and can now see daylight through drivers door.
I know what you mean about hum drum....I keep giving myself electric shocks recently 'cos my mind seems to be elsewhere ,and being an electrician it's not good business when your customer comes home from work to find you dazed and confused on their bedroom floor with the entire contents of their knicker draw scattered about the room.....well that's a sparkys perk I guess! ^-^

  6. I reckon there is some market for what you offer and your bus is testament to that. Sounds great for a bit of cottage industry but could you make it pay? It seems like lots of effort for potentially a little reward. If it's a hobby that pays some income or you can sell some of your 'art' then that's great, but be wary of making your hobby your livelyhood......

    Good luck.

  7. This would be a sideline until things got very busy and a regular income could be made

  10. Personally, and don`t take it the wrong way but whist you may enjoy doing it i dont think you will make a living from it . people will only buy real quality products and you need to sell the in quantities (i`m not saying you don`t do quality stuff) but you need to make decent profit . work out how long it takes you to make 4 overriders , +100% minimum mark up proffit .. i dont think people will spend that sort of money ..
I`ve watched my old man run a business for the last 25 years ( copper smith /model steam engine boliers /full size steam preservation ) work his ass off 6 days a week plus paperwork in eves .Yes he enjoys it but make a decent living he does not ..

but best of luck and avoid Barclays

when your hobby becomes your job it gets no fun. and that's why i haven't played guitar for 6 years.

  15. What about making late bay engine tinware, the big back & front bits?

People are always chasing these bits and they go for quite a lot of money considering what they are.

Maybe cheap to make them from a fibreglass mould?

    Good luck

  16. Dip your toe in .if you don't try you will always regret not giving a go

Good luck with the venture. From little acorns great oaks are made (or however the saying goes)

I'm sure you'll also come up with a "must have" item with your thinking outside the box having seen what you've done to your bus.
