Master Cylinder replacement - DIY ?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by fazer1k, Sep 3, 2011.

  1. Losing fluid from the master cylinder 'weep hole' (at least I think it's called that) on my '76 Westy.

Is this an easy replacement or should a novice look for help from a friendly mobile mechanic (or siimilar) ?

Have seen a new one for £37.80 from GSF Aircooled which I guess is sourced from Brazil, anyone experience of these, cheap but avoid ?!

    Thanks

  2. its easy to replace the mc
loosen brake pipes, use a pipe spanner if possible
    loosen switches
    unbolt from servo, remove pipes
remove mc and swap the switches to new one
loosely put new mc in place and get the pipe ends started, do not tighten just make sure they are on a good few turns
    bolt on mc to servo
tighten brakes pipes, bleed brakes and wash off all the old spilled fuid with water
tea, biccy and pat yourself on the back
