At the moment it seems that i can fix one thing and then minutes late manage to break another. I finished welded up my modified engine bar so it clears my new exhaust and then damaged the end of the heat exchanger pipe while trying to see if it fits. Now i'm trying to find a piece of 35mm OD steel pipe with 2mm wall thickness now so i can fix the stub on the heat exchanger.
Try looking in the skip at your local exhaust fitting place, I've been in a couple in my time They seem to cut some exhausts to fit and usually have some new offcuts of varying sizes
Never thought of that. Thanks. Irritating thing is i had an old heat exchanger lying in the shed for years and binned it a few weeks back.
Gotta be 35mm? I can rustle up some 1 1/2" Stainless Dairy tube if you can get that to fit...what's that 38mm or something?
Its all part of that VW experience fixing something only for something else to stop working. I am not sure I have ever had a "no more jobs to do on my bus, yippee" moment. I have had momentary success on specific items, but always find other things randomly stop working which keeps the interest. People say "ooh I would love a bus" to which I reply a) are you handy at fixing cars, or b) have you got LOADS of money to pay mechanics? if so buses are brilliant.
Is the repair section in the VW heritage sale? get it even cheaper then! Good luck with the repair, Martin
Seems easier than looking for another section of pipe the exact same size and trying to weld it on. Nothing i ever want/need is ever in any sale until i've already bought it.
