I cant find any images which appear to show any part numbers, the ones I posted certainly don't show anything.

What I can remember is that the spigot bearing (which was for a Wasserboxer) didn't fit our flywheel until the hole was opened up - I cant recall if the depth was okay or it had to be deepened.

    If that helps?

  3. Got a new needle bearing waiting to go in.. says they fit both engine flywheels.. we'll see when I get the thing back next week..

I can’t remember if the spigot bearing I used was meant for a wasserboxer but it’s longer than the old one and sticks out of the crank by a few mm. I had the flywheel machined to accept the bearing, like Mark showed earlier.

  5. Yes I have a 228mm flywheel, can i be of any assistance?

  6. Thanks..I was tryng to identify my flywheel or at least see if it had been worked on before.
But I think it's just a wasserboxer one. ..which explains why it looks different and is prob ok

Could you measure the step between the pressure plate mounting face to the ring gear teeth and the distance to the face where the friction plate runs please.

A pic of the back of the flywheel showing any part numbers or forging marks would be interesting, and do you know if it’s off an air- or water-cooled engine, Porsche or VW?

  8. It came from a GD code aircooled, when I get dressed I'll take some photos and measurements. How accurate do you need the measurments? I'm not sure if it has been machine previously.

  10. Looks very similar apart from that step down to the teeth. Hopefully get mine back and I can measure up soon

    It does, thanks John

GD is a bus engine and would have had a cast flywheel from the factory, however, I’ve read that the oval indentations on the back face indicate that it’s forged. Mark’s flywheel is plain on the back and probably cast – nothing wrong with a cast flywheel by the way, especially for a low revving bus engine. 228mm Porsche 914 flywheels are probably forged and some say so are wasserboxer, at least early ones, and can be used on a Type 4.

Apologies for my off-topic ramblings but I’ve read a lot of conflicting information and I’m trying to understand the differences between flywheels and which ones are interchangeable.

  13. This one much the same with markings
OOH or HOO and 9619 instead of 9633.

Step down even though skimmed 24.75 ( but I told him to keep as it was)

It's overall I'd is 275mm rim is 20mm including teeth.. I've lost a bit of taper or most actually from teeth now.. the6 measure 7.25mm

    Overall thickness of flywheel 32.5mm

Weight is 5.5kg friction plate is definitely for a 227 plate..

Here's the one I took out

Still see text on the friction plate so barely used quick wipe and good to reuse hopefully.

.any other measurement any use let me know

Oh and it was ground to skim it..
