M-Tdi route with flipped GB

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by leflipflop, Feb 26, 2020.

  1. Some who have seen my project notes in the restorations section will see how stripped my bus is.

I am going the tdi route on Ted.
I've managed to procure the following
    AHU 1.9TDI motor complete
    Passat gearbox
Adaptor plate to allow the flipped box
    Porsche boxster gearbox linkage

The only other things i now need the 200/300tdi diesel pump and the actual gear lever and cables..

Going to drop off my gearbox for machining in a few weeks to allow for the difference in thickness of the adaptor plate.

I'm excited to get this all together and will have it running off the van first.

I've been browsing multiple forums.. YouTube vids to understand and gain as much info as possible. If anyone has anything else to share please do so..

  2. thats a great motor to fit ''easily''
there was a guy doing the machining on the gearbox with a jig and a router

Do you need to change the pump, I was under the impression it was required on t25 due to height restrictions in the engine bay, don’t think it’s an issue in a bay ?

  4. The ahu still utilises a pump with ecu input I believe. . Going the mtdi route removes the requirement of ecu input and is operated solely by mechanical timing

  5. I did the M-TDi conversion on my sons T25.
Had to get the pump bracket machined to take the landrover pump but every thing else fitted fine.
Bit tricky to time up but once set it worked great.
I think i might have a spare pump and a bracket already machined if you haven't already got them .

  6. I havnt sourced a pump or bracket yet. I did watch a vid yesterday of how to set the timing and pretty confident that won't cause me any issues.. Will borrow a dti from work haha. Let me know how much you want for that

  8. Hiya, i found the pump but the boost pin and diaphram are missing (Son tried to modify it to get more power).
Also got the bracket that has been machined to fit the pump but its the early type bracket that doesn't have
the mounting for the extra timing belt guide roller that sits between the cam sprocket and the pump
sprocket that the later ones have.
Your welcome to have them if you could pick them up or cover the postage.
    Cheers

  9. I'll defo make use of the pump Paul.. Most appreciated.

Let me know what you want for it posted and I shall send it across...

  10. Paul is a legend.. Much appreciate the pump. Have inboxed you too.

I now have my engine too. Started stripping all the look parts off. Need to get an engine stand to clean the motor up. Service it.. Change the pump unit over. Think I may remove the manifolds etc and clean it all up.
