LPG kits who runs them and do they work with carbs

  1. I run my t25 on LPG through the stock carb, though its a watercooled 1.9.

  2. Mines a normal carb 34 pict, i'll take a picture to show you.

  3. On a 34 pict carb the LPG pipe will just connect into the 90 degree bend (just above the carb) in the pipe from your airfilter.

I was advised not to on the grounds that my engine has a lot of miles to it and twin carbs. The tolerances are not; so I'm led to believe; as lenient as they are for normal fuel so everything must be spot on. As we know twin carbs do go out of adjustment.

If I had a fresh engine and single carb I'd look into it more.

What set up do you have??

  5. Thanks I spoke to Tinley today and he said its possible on our engines with a single carb but it needs a warm up pipe welded into the backbox like this one.

Price was about £450 depending on tank.

Any pics would be good, where have you mounted your tanks and filler neck?

My engine was rebuilt 2 year ago 1641 with a solex 34 but I have a weber if its better
    Cheers

  8. great thats what im after, did you go down the diy route or a company fit? what kits have you got?

  9. were watching with great interest, its been a topic of great debate here. Hoping to do a conversion when stig is finnished

I've had a few LPG buses through and all were single solex 1600's. Probably just coincidence.
Their owners were all very pleased with the conversions and couldn't detect any difference between petrol and gas performance. You're supposed to start on petrol until it's warmed up, then switch to gas, but to a man they said they started up fine on gas.
There's a co in Yorkshire (I think) does them to buses - Gassure. Your man Steve there was very helpful when I called to discuss taking engine's out and what not to touch.

  14. I am also considering this - I was going to use the spare wheel well to house the tank (spare is front mounted). Does anyone have any suggestions for where to mount the filler nozzle? Any ideas without putting a dirty great hole in the bodywork?

  15. Mine is under the sill just in front of the rear wheel, no hole req!

  16. Good info, I called http://www.gasure.co.uk/ today but the bloke on the phone was less than helpful, basically told me he fits them and wont sell diy kits or advice.

He did say that the solex carb is fine and hes done hundreds of installs.

Oh dear, I'm sorry about that - won't be bigging him up again, but it was one of his installations I rang about, so maybe that's fair enough. Didn't know he doesn't supply - thought he did. His installations are neat enough. :)

  18. The kit i installed was from tinleytech and they were really useful answering all the stupid questions i needed answering.
Cost just over £500 for the kit for my waterboxer in my T25 caravelle and i've done over 6000 miles so far on gas.

You loose a bit of MPG running on gas as it has a lower calorific value but the low price of LPG still gives me a saving of 8-10p a mile over using petrol.
You can supposidly advance the ignition a few degrees to give a better burn of the gas and better MPG but then if you run it on petrol every once in a while it'll pink like crazy. :(

Its not too difficult to fit if yourself. If you can cut copper pipe, drill holes and both things down, screw in screws and connect pipes you'll be able to fit and LPG conversion.

I've got a copy of the LPG code of practice (CoP11) if you want to have a read. States all the things you need to do to keep it legal (e.g. distance of pipes from heat sources etc).
