Lowering

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by top banana racing, Aug 8, 2013.

  1. How bad does it get?
I REALLY want to lower the front by 2 to 3 inches, nothing radical but I fear it will really spoil it.
It'd just look so much better as the back is saggy anyway, it'd also then fit in the garage without taking the door off! :)

Go down a bit at a time until you get sick of it rubbing and maybe the shocks banging then go up a bit and regret cutting off the bump stops.4 inches too low without shorter shocks. 3 inches with coilovers rubbing is rare but it is quite bouncy.

  3. lift the back up to match the front

free no parts needed , you will look cool , and you can run over the sheep in their lowered campers

  4. Have a drive in mine Glynn then you'll know for sure, I don't think you would like it :)

  5. This idea I like, anyone care to help/share the info.
    It sounds easy.

  6. Chris you've seen mine, it does have a saggy rear.
It's bugging me big time, if I raised the rear to match it'd look right and drive nice but I'd have to take the garage door off to get it in for the winter.
Would dropped spindles be he way forward?
3" down and no change in suspension.
I doubt I'd get any rubbing, mine is high at the front anyway.

My bus had a saggy rear, so I had an adjuster fitted to front beam. Just lowered enough to make it level.......couldn't tell any difference in ride...but didn't look silly anymore !

  10. I fitted the red9 coilover shocks to my bus. Easy job did it in the garage in a couple of hours and transformed the ride. I went for the 4-5.5 drop but im sure they do a 2 - 4 drop package.

and best off all you can put all the old parts back to stock if you dont like it.

  11. Expensive?
    Sounds like a good idea.
Could a trainee feckwit do it?

there are £415 plus delivery. I found they worked out about the same as taking it a garger for them to cut and twist the beam. As long as you know which way to hold a spanner it was straight forward and the company was more then happy to send me out step by step instructions.

  13. This is looking like a good option. :)

Your rear does look low TB.
When I put mine back up to stock I used a digital inclinometer and got the spring plates just as the manual, but when took it off the jack it looked like this.

    A bit like yours^.

So I took it all to bits again and put it up just a little bit like this. It made all the difference to my eye. Although I only raised the back between the two pics it looks like the front went down a bit as well.

  15. @Top Banana Racing I found the instructions on my laptop, if you PM me your email ill forward you them and see what you think.

  16. I've got an adjuster on the front and one spline at the back, your ass is sagging so you may get away with just doing the front. The adjuster made it lose the space in the front arches but it has made the ride harder. I like it but many don't. The coil overs might be the way forward for you, but I've never used them. @zed would probably tell you to go the flipped spindle route but I'm not sure of the costs involved.

Edit: Zeds appeared whilst I was typing :D

  17. That's exactly it @zed ,
So how much to raise the back up one notch?
Could it be done in a few hours?
I'm coming over to Carrot crunching land soon, could arrange to drop in and have it done?
That way if I didn't get on with it I could go back and try something else. :)

  18. Used red9 coilovers 2-4"drop, came preset at 4" drop and that's what I have.

Madpad - is that the before pic?.
This is "flipped" spindles and 4 1/2". It's too low, but that's what you get when you flip them.
