Low Rev Stutter

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Gazaloid, Aug 21, 2017.

  1. Hi all, I'm having a problem with what seems like a flat spot at low revs in all gears, irrespective of whether the bus is cold or warmed up after running for a while. The basic symptom is that I'll change up a gear only to feel the engine struggle before it jumps back into life and everything seems perfectly fine. It runs fine once off and running again but occasionally makes a sound like a misfire before regaining composure. The only way to stop it happening is to keep the revs as high as possible before shifting up...it's more noticeable from 1st to 2nd but definitely there 2-3 and 3-4 also.

I was wondering if it could be something as simple as a dirty air filter - here's a pic of mine which to my untrained eye would appear to be in need of a change. Any suggestions? [IMG]

It is a progressive carb. Its normal when fitted with that air filter and on top of a T4 engine.

It can be tuned out to some extent but it works better hooked up to an air cleaner with hot air feed. And on top of a T1 which is plumbed for a centre mount carb.

Go and buy a pair of ICT34's or similar. Or struggle.

  3. Thanks Mike, I've been mulling over a switch to dual carbs since I bought the bus, but my usual mechanic told me that bang for buck it wasn't worth it. Either way it's too frustrating to leave as-is, so I've put it on the list ahead of next year's camping season. Cheers.

  4. Mikedjames is the man for these carbs, that can be ok with lots of fettling but as he says dual carbs are the way, you should get some money for the very shiny new looking carb you have there though to help...
