Hi, Can anyone suggest where to get the plastic seals for the bottom of the Louvre glass to stop wind and rattling please? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Adjust the mechanism. The Devon windows dont use seals on the glass edges. Undo the screws on the latch . Slide it down with the handle lifted about 20-30mm. As you slide it down the handle should start to lift as the mechanism pushes the glass down. Tighten the screws. Try shutting the latch, it should feel springy and snap into place. If it doesnt then your windows are worn and need new parts which you will have to make and fit. Heres a video I made earlier.
Good luck! I tried some sticky-backed stuff that looked bad and mildewed up on both sides. To get rid of rattles, you can try tightening the mechanism and using something like Captain Tolley's on the metal clamp at each end of each piece of glass - will make future removal more difficult though. Jamming a rag in the window will put further strain on the mechanism, bending the lever arms and making the system even more rattly. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
That is the problem. All the time it rattles it is wearing faster. You may have to flatten the bits of aluminium in the mechanism at the sides if they are bent. This is hard to do but necessary. And eventually the aluminium wears where it is fretting on the harder parts of the mechanism . Captain Tolleys seems to be a kind of PVA glue. You could just carefully slide the glass out and tighten the clips at the ends then reinsert the glass. Wrap it in a rag, dont drop it... or the way things are going you will have PVC sheet duct taped to your bus for the next 4 months.
Has this come about ..because of the shortage of loo roll to stuff in your strips How are doing Sean haven't seen you for a while
I hadnt noticed what the white stuff was in the window. I was a bit worried yesterday about being mugged as I carried a pack of bog roll out of Sainsburys. The last six left on the shelf out of 30 to 40 pallets in stores around 0800, (overheard staff discussing empty shelves) .. by 1300 all gone..
I looked high and low but couldn’t find the seals in the UK. Ended up splashing out for some form the US https://www.amazon.com/Jalousie-Louver-Window-Seal-Clear/dp/B002X96LMC BTW, I think the Devon windows did have these seals - I had a close look at some of the original brochures and you can just about make them out. But I suspect they all fell off after a couple of years...
Damn, you spotted my secret stash! Nope, I stuffed that in because of the rattle. I’m good thanks @Faust. Just been very busy, although that is about to change for some reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thought that was you drying out the bogroll ready for re-use? Have you considered using both sides? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
I find the best way of drying bogroll out is to sandwich it between two Devon flyscreens with a guard dog and bike lock - if you hang it from your window, someone's bound to nick it. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
