looks like I need a 69mm crank

  1. Have stripped a 1600 engine and sent off to have a short block built up, this engine was a cheap gamble but due to massive oil issues sounds like crank got cooked and is bent !. I dont have crank so cant measure but have no reason to believe this is not the case.
Looking around at Vwh, Coolair for basic replacements. Have found reground on veewee for just over a £110 but dare I ask if anyone has had one of these before.
Would prefer not to go back to engine builder with anything other than a near perfect used or a new, only thing I can see with these cheaper ones is they are cast not forged but on a basic 1600 is this a issue ?

A reground forged crank is going to be better than a cast crank for not cracking.

Its why the 'new' engines sold by the mainstream engine builders still use original cranks and connecting rods, even when new alternatives are available for the likes of a 1600 or 1641 or 1776..
