I used to be very sceptical about power steering as well,to the point of mocking folk that suggested it but its one of the first things I will be doing on my single cab. Luckily its easier on a T25, and someone has just given me a Corsa column, so its a no brainer really. As a side note, to anyone that's going to fit one to a bay, make sure your windscreen doesn't leak first, as if it does, it runs straight into the control module and fooks it up.
I used to have the same view, but like @Zed I'm getting weary of the heaving trying to navigate Sainsbury's car park in the Bay. I'm tempted...
Yes it does, probably meant even on motorways you come off occasionally for fuel etc. I’m not sure but I think it pretty much deactivates at about 25 mph but may do so even earlier on a gradual basis
I don't know how to and I don't open links that are hidden behind a title. It seems simple enough to cut and paste a link so everyone knows what it is and can open it if they want to, or not if they don't. Anyway, today I've driven 300kms from Spain to France over the Pyrenees with more low speed hairpin bends than I can count, it's a doddle with LiteSteer and I could do it again if it wasn't time for a beer. I fitted it in a few hours, it has a loom with connections for the battery and coil and the ignition supply. It also has a speed sensor in the speedo cable (no GPS on mine) so it has a dedicated power supply, only works when the engine is running, and reduces the assistance as speed increases. It also replaces the flexible coupling with a U/J and that makes the steering more positive. What's not to like? Well, the motor is not small and protrudes from the column towards the driver and if you have a parcel shelf it needs to be modified. However, I believe LiteSteer have developed the system with a smaller motor so that might not now be an issue. It isn't cheap but it's worth every penny.
I sent a message to Neil Oakley at Lite-Steer about the possibility of a group purchase discount for TLB members. He replied promptly and was very positive. Rather than paraphrase, this is the bulk of his response: "We be happy to offer a discount of 5% for a minimum of 5 units. The delivery is £60plus vat each. Or how about a group fitting at Lite-Steer HQ? If you can get everyone together (minimum of 5 max of say 10) we could do a Friday into Saturday self fitting(with my help, tools and advice) there’s plenty of room for a few vans here for over night camping and a good pub within 10 minute walk. Say £25 each van?" So, I'm in, are there 4 or more who would make up an order? I'm less bothered about the fitting offer, but might make up the numbers if it made the difference to it going ahead. Apologies if I shouldn't have done this.
£60 + vat = £72. 5% discount is £51. Pretty crap offer TBH, doesn't even cover the postage. £1020 - 5% + post = £1042. How about counter offer £1000 posted?
No. I think they used to have a system whereby each one you bought would be a bit cheaper (up to a point), but I generally just suggest to the customer that they buy it, and get it sent to me.
I think @Barry Haynes could, but he's already got a pile of "RiteSteers" in his lockup. I think they're Chinese. £100 each, cash, and he'll throw in some Betamax tapes
