Levelling up stock suspension

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by andyv, Feb 23, 2019.

  1. I just removed my EZ rider front suspension and have gone back to stock (@lhu1281). I also had lowered spring plates on the back but having put the originals back, it doesn't look right. Measured to the top of the gutter, the rear is down about 40 mm over the front. I'm going to have to play with the splines I think.

Can somebody provide me with some reference measurements, and where do you take them from? Is the gutter intended to have a gradient on it? It's a 79 Westy with a rear hinging roof. Without a driver in should it look higher at the front compared to the rear or should it be level. It does sink noticeably when I get in.

It drives very nicely I have to say, not the bone shaking ride it has been.

The back is always lower than the front until you sit in the cab....

They sat nose up originally, especially with a camper interior in.

They ride lovely with standard suspension don't they.

Drive it for a couple of weeks and let it settle, but the front is always higher than the back

  5. As above, stock is higher at the front with nobody driving. Once you stick a fat German van driver in the front, everything levels off.

  6. Thanks folks for your comments. I think I may be lower at the back than usual though. I vaguely recall noticing years ago that the bus was leaning to the left because of the weight of the cabinets so I corrected this by lowering the right. On a lowered bus with adjustable front suspension this looked fine, but I think by returning to stock it's sitting a bit lower than original at the rear.

I'll not make any hasty moves until I've given it chance to settle though.
