  2. Take photos, LOTS!
You'll need them when you've forgotten where bits go.
    Why are you stripping it?

Just look for damaged bits as you go.
Keep tidying up, have a few boxes for parts and keep them out of your way.
Remove the bottom tinware, disconnect the thermostat and drain the oil while you can get underneath before you remove it from the van.

  11. hi zed iv got to remove the pistons and barrels, fly wheel and crank pully then im ready to undo all the nuts and split the case. I left my sockets at work so i haven't had chance to do the work above yet. Hopefully i can get my sockets tomorrow and find the fault. Il keep you posted i noticed another post earlier a guy had a knock from his engine iv read that with great interest. Sounds the same problem i have. Hope its just the big ends.

You can find out if it's a big end right now without tools. Turn the engine back and forth a little and see if you feel a loose bit with "ends". Look at the pistons and see which doesn't move through this loose bit.
Pul the barrel off the loose one, remove piston and conrod - easy through the barrel holes and see exactly what state it's in. At this point you might want to consider whether you'll go further of seek help.

  13. ok ill give it ago should there be any play in the con rods iv took the barrel and piston out of cylinder 4 and there seems to be play in the con rod? A little left and right and alot backwards and forwards?

There should be none detectable in and out, a little side to side. Sounds like you found it. You might have to take off the opposite barrel as well to get at the nuts better. There are no washers to drop in the case and everything else is easily fish outable if you drop something inside.

You might have to slim down a 15mm socket to get onto the conrod bolts, though that might be T4 engines.

  15. It is T4's as he thought, you will be ok with standard socket unless you have an odd thick one

  16. cool iv got the 2 nuts off but the con rod still wont come off?? Am i missing a trick lolol

  17. They are just tight

  18. Is the piston still attached?
If so a block of wood against the piston and a glancing blow on the wood with a hammer should crack it

  19. ok iv got a couple of ways of getting it apart so ill have ago tomorrow in hoping i don't have to split the case :/

  20. Stick a bit of cardboard under the big end to stop errant nuts/bolts dropping into the case.
