    Hi all

I thought I'd ask for some leasure battery help here

The attached drawing shows my current system. Sorry for the very amateurly done drawing, this is my first attempt at sorting out car electrics.

I would like to bypass the old Westfalia city charger as I'm not sure I trust it and move into a split charging system that allows me to go solar/mains/driving charging in the future but just mains/driving now.

The mains connection has been checked and works directly to 3pin sockets. But the other systems don't.

So my question is about the BCA PS167 transformer...is it any use in the future configuration?

Any advise as to what I could do to reconfigure the current layout even if it means starting all again would be appreciated.

Could I just disconnect the Westfalia and instead take the 12v power red cable from the PS167 to the battery, then take the blue cable from the battery and then just earth the battery as normal?

    Thanks all.

The westfalia charger at most will need a capacitor or two where they dry out through age. The toroidal mains transformer is almost certainly safer than a cheapie switchmode mains transformer in a modern unit.
If it is still working well keep it.

    Thanks for your reply.

May I check why you mention a toroidal mains transformer? I thought the Westfalia C was just a timer and switch and the PS167 just a bog standard charger.

I should have said that the Westfalia city charger did not seem to work.

In Ithe interim have disconnected the Westfalia to see what is wrong with it and set up the camper with the PS167 feeding the leisure battery. Seems to work including on mains to charge, but if the Westfalia CC is better and I can fix it, I'm happy to stay reasonable original.

There was a picture at one stage in your posting that showed an old style toroidal transformer - the TLB site showed about 8 half-viewable pictures at one stage..

I would look for blown fuses on non working kit.

Thanks Mike. I took them down because, as you say, they were not working. Here is the picture you were referring to and that is just the back of the Westfalia mechanical timer not a transformer. I've checked the panel now and lots of bits are missing so I've disconnected the panel for now, but thanks all the same for your reply.
