But they dont disconnect themselves after 40 years. Its still connected .. while a cigarette lighter plug carrying 5 amps creeps out until the tip is just touching, it glows red hot and melts the plug.
Ok you chaps - why does your main battery EVER need additional charging? Summat wrong with your electrics? I'm in the camp that thinks attempting to get any meaningful charge back into your leisure battery using the alternator without taking an 8 hour drive is a waste of relays and wire and gives you false security that will end with a knackered LB. And connecting them with a std relay will simply deplete your starter battery. The whole circuit is a waste of time and energy IMHO.
We had this conversation a while ago Steve and I agree to a certain extent but keeps the lads busy i suppose.... I had a week down Devon / Cornwall last year , obviously a 5 hour drive down and used the van at least an hour each day but the leisure battery still took an overnight charge half way through the week and we were only using the (compressor) fridge. Even with a 200w panel (yet to fit) and split charger I still expect having to mains charge my leisure battery to keep it topped up and my power usage is minimal. You were also right about the leisure battery showing 12-13 volts as only being a guide ....
Battery to battery charger is what you want as it optimises each individual battery Some also have a solar input Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
