In the olden days you would go to the scrappy and find the pile of springs and a concrete slab near a vertical post as a handhold ... and jump up and down with one under either foot to find a pair that started off the same length and felt the same underfoot.


These days my favourite scrappy is tacky waterfront apartments at the arse end of a rundown district of Southampton.
