Late Devon Pop-Up Roof Hinge Failure

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by jazz999, Jul 23, 2013.

  1. Just before going away last weekend one of the hinges on my roof sheered off (metal fatigue). We were forced to prop it up with a bit of wood for the duration. I will have to replace both with new if possible as I don't know how long secondhand items will last.

I can locate new springs for the mechanism but not the complete unit. Does anyone know of a supplier?

  3. If that's your van in your avatar, I'm guessing you've got the later devon pop top as the full length roof had gas struts i think rather than springs. my old van with that roof had the same problem, one of the central hinges had broken and the strut was missing. You can buy a new hinge here.

If it is the full length roof, the bits the struts attach to on the van roof and pop top could easily be fabricated. Just drill out the rivets and take the remains down to an engineering firm.
