(kids) sleeping bags

  1. My 5 y/o daughter just said, "the only thing I don't like about camping is that it's cold at night". Now part of the problem might be that she insists on unzipping her sleeping bag every time she goes to bed, but in truth it's not a great bag, it's a Eurohike, it's thin, lined with horrible shiny polyester, and it was chosen because it's pink and it was cheap.

Me and the missus share a Coleman Breckenridge double which is brilliant - comfy and warm with a soft fluffy lining. What should I buy for the girl?

Oh, and any hand me downs gladly accepted. We're not proud!

I have a Vango nightstar 450 for my lad. He used to grumble he was cold at night...not any more ! It's a 3-4 season bag and it still fits him fine and he's 15 now.

  7. I used to do that, but the Coleman sleeping bag is warmer and it's nice to lie on, too (you don't need sheets). I'm usually a tightwad, but it was money well spent. Feel a bit guilty that my daughter's cold when I'm so snug.

  9. We used Vango Nitestar 350 Juniors for ours when they were nippers. Very toastie! I can let you have one in purple if you want. They are good for upto about 1.5m (5ft in old money) tall from memory. Where abouts in North London are you? Are you going to Techenders?

On a sensible note don't think of saving money by buying a bigger one she will grow into as she will still feel cold now.
Bigger the bag longer a body takes to warm the space inside.

  11. Her current one is too long really, even though it's a kids one.

  12. Thank you, that's very kind! We were looking earlier and saw these. She liked the purple! I'm in N4 - looks like you're right over the other side of town. Unfortunately can't make it to Techenders as I've got a wedding to go to. Do you go into central london? Could come and meet you somewhere...

  13. I never felt guilty kicking them out of the van into the tent ,in fact the feeling was relief...:D

Get her a army one and build her a shell scrape under the van..

  14. Ha! Maybe next year.

  15. Could you not wrap her in a spare length of fibreglass loft lagging? Both warm and soft.

I tried to buy a new sleeping bag before last Techenders but they're all made for midgets now!
Tried from cheap and cheerful to £200+ bags and they were all too short.
Stuck to my 20 odd year old Swedish army special order one in the end.

  19. How near to M25 is that? I'm coming round North side tomorrow to Cheshunt then upto Luton on way to Techenders.
Sometimes have appointments in town but don't know when till week before!

  20. I could certainly meet you in Cheshunt but not this weekend as I'm flying from Luton tomorrow afternoon to go to Gibraltrar for the weekend.

Drop me a PM next time you're in town and I'll try to come and meet you.

Failing that I'll see you at the next Techenders!
