Hi. Out for a ride today.... The bus ,now and then, was 'kangarooing' jumping, missing..... What could be the cause??? I'm going to check all plugs, HT leads, dizzy and coil. (I recently replaced the HT leads and rotor arm) Type 1 1600.
My Dad used to blame the petrol. "Got kangaroo petrol in it today." He would say. Sorry, that's no help, is it? Damp can cause this, check the dizzy and rotor arm.
Sticking ignition advance mechanism. Coil flashing over .or. loose ignition lead. Keys swinging on knackered ignition switch. Mixture too rich, engine almost flooding then going lean due to missing stock carburettor preheat/ heat riser components.
Its been doing it since I put new HT leads on.....didn't before (once on warm up but nothing to worry about)
Check the leads are pushed fully home in the dissy cap, and that they are a tight fit on the plugs. What make are the leads out of interest?
I found the centre pin on the ignition coil slips down and out over time , the boot slides up the wire. It stays on but the gap gets bigger until it starts flashing over or you stop suddenly. Like on a speed bump..
Its going to be the new parts you fitted, what was wrong with the old leads and rotor arm? I had this and new lead set boots were cheap shiny rubber and wouldn't grip the coil and dizzy terminals. I had to open up the metal lead connectors to grip tightly, as the old ones did perfectly.
The old leads and rotor arm were very worn and as I had new I thought I may as well put the new ones on instead of keeping them for spares.
I put the old HT leads back on and dizzy cap and she's good again. How can new parts be worse?? You'd think we would be making g better quality stuff nowadays not worse...
It's a euphemism... "A person, such as an accountant or financial officer, who is concerned with quantification, especially to the exclusion of other matters, such as quality." Corollary: If you let the engineers run a company, you get Saab, and we know what happened to them.
