i know i dropped a clanger when i bought my van , actually i think it must have been a different van from the one i looked at - i reckon i viewed a reasonably solid van but when i left they swapped number plates and interior back onto the wreck out the back and sent me that on the transporter :-[

The thing that baffle's me is , from the sill up she is really rather good , bits of rust but nothing daunting and the cargo floor is solid .

The chassis , sills and beams though were totally shot and i mean shot to the point where i pulled most of it off by hand .

How does this happen ? .
i know how rust forms etc and i know a chassis is likely to get more than its fair share of road salt , but man the difference between top and bottom was incredible , its almost as if she had been parked up in a pond up to the floor and left for a year , could being parked up on grass or similar do that ?

  2. Yes Grass would have a bad affect on the underneath of the van, My friend always said that, and he restore's VWs

  3. Parked on grass is nearly as bad as parking in the sea
