It looks like today is a nice day to take the van out....

  1. but someone went out last night after having not drunk for eight weeks and got what I believe to be "smashed". Didn't have too much (although the 3 tequilas in a minute probably wasnt the best idea).

Am a bit miffed with myself this morning because I've got to sit around all day and can't go anywhere until tomorrow :(

  2. You are not missing much, its cold and grey, and I am meant to be doing 23miles in the kayak tommorow :(

  3. just found an hour of Paul Weller live from V Festival on the tv so that will keep me entertained for the time being and the postmans just delivered my wheel chocks, my gear change sticker and my new tarpaulin so I can play with those as well

  4. I've been out in the bus and you are correct, it is a nice day to be out driving it. Thinking about trying to source some heating system parts now though, got a bit fresh in there after about an hour.

  5. Fair enough, I work outside so become a bit of a fair weather fairy at weekends!

  6. Also took mine out for a little 10 mile spin to get the temperature up and test her after having the carbs and exhaust adjusted. Drove lovely - cold tho.

Me too, well at least without heating. I'm still in bed. :D

Took mine out for the first time in weeks, it's driving fine but p##sing oil out even though I changed the flywheel oil seal, especially when you turn off,
Pretty hacked off so I've stripped the original engine that came with it down to crankcase splitting point, see if its too far gone to rebuild!

Perhaps you need a new flywheel rather than a new engine? Old ones sometimes have a groove worn by the seal which makes future sealing impossible.

Possibly cheaper elsewhere. You may need to re-shim the endfloat.

Or - check out the crank seal size, get the next size smaller - hopefully about 1mm smaller, and get a machinist to turn down the flywheel. Maybe someone already did that, it's doable and you never know with these old engines. If I was an old boy with a lathe in the garage (or my dad/grandad was), I might do this rather than the delay and expense of a new one and feel rather smug. :D

  10. Did you put a smidge of oil on the inner when you fitted the new one? They can destroy the new one otherwise when you fire it up !
