Is this fan housing correct for 1600 twinport?

  1. Hello all,

I have bought a new fan housing for my engine, whilst it was out i had to repair mine but got the replacement for £10, but there are some slight differeces.

The top one is the one i removed from my engine, it has bigger fins inside, is missing a piece which seems to wrap around the bottom of the fan, and has an extra bit over the front of the fan like some sort of cover. The new one i got is rustier, but doesnt need any welding just a rub ddown and paint.

They are both doghouse shrouded so should be ok , yours is later than 72 right ?

it is the bigger ( 40hp )1600 housing , if it fits then use it , i have a feeling the one you have is left hand drive ;)

No i was joking - your newer one is the earlier housing 72/ 76 , i could be wrong but it should fit ok

  5. Oh right will it be ok to use then? Did they change it for a reason?
I could fix the extra bit for the front of the fan easy enough

Sorry i am on the phone so cant link but if you Have a look on ratwell or the samba for vortex ring it will explain

  7. I've had a quick look, I've found that it aids cooling on the shroud it's fitted to, but not sure if I'm going to gain by fitting it to the new cooler, or where the cooler with the vortex ring on it is better and is worth the extra work to salvage it now?

It for a standard 1600 twin port

  8. So after a bit of a search around I have found that these vortex rings are available to buy, to be fitted to all fan shrouds, and aid cooling by 25% so ill remove it from my old shroud and rivet it onto my new one once its cleaned up!

  9. You should fit the vortex ring to the new shroud. Worth having!
