Is bosch 009 the only way to go, or is accuspark any good?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Austin, Oct 20, 2013.

  1. I could do with changing my dizzy to a 009, in the past I've gone for bosch units, but it seems that there are some others on the market now, so are the accuspark and power spark 009 dizzy a worth a look? Or am I asking for trouble with anything other that bosch?

If anyone has one of these other units, holla at me with what you think.

    Cheers

  2. You're asking for trouble with a 009 (P00 backwards!) unless you have a highly tuned engine. Others will probably say differently, I'm going off my experience. Flat spots galore on a standard engine resulting in lots of stalling at the lights unless you can get it timed up correctly or you enjoy revving the bowlocks off it just to pull away from a standstill. o_O

    I can't think why you'd specifically want a 009.
I'd go 123, Accuspark or svda.

I've done 1000 miles with the cheapo Accuspark this year and have no problems to report.

  5. I`ve run a 009 for over 20 years now, no probs ...
Had issues recently when I refurbished the carb and forgot to set the accelerator pump quadrant to maximum,
(cures the flat-spot ;)) other than that no problems on a stock engine.
Others will tell you a different story !!

  6. What's the matter with your old dissy?

  7. I have a cheap Accuspark, it's done 2000 trouble free miles so far. :)

  8. I haven't got the whole distributor (yet) but have accuspark cap, arm, condenser, plugs, points, leads and they are very reliable

  9. Doug, I feel I may need a little educating here!! To be honest I thought there was only the choice of what I've got as standard, and a 009 what's the 123 all about?

  10. 123 increses your sex appeal
accuspark saves your knees from changing points once a month because they are made cheap nowadays

Get an accuspark vac advance dizzy with module of ebay
You will have one of the best value for money things in the aircooled dub world

The 123 dizzy is all fine and good if you've got a super dooper race tuned engine or the like, for normal stuff the accuspark is more that adequate

  12. Does the module mean I don't need an actual vacuum connection from my carbs then?

  13. always best to have vac advance for everday engines

  14. Accuspark....that's all I have to say

The Accuspark is a good bit of kit no doubt. The 123 from what I've seen is streets ahead on any engine, not just race tuned. They're priced accordingly though!

  16. I've tried both vac advance and 009 and have to say stick with the vac unit. As people have said a lot more suited to road use and the accuspark unit gives good reliability although I do enjoy sitting in laybuys resetting my points it's become part it a good journey now lol!

At the price of the accusspark get 2 one as a spare

  18. Is it easy to reinstate a vac advance distributor, ive got a little bung in the carb and a non vac 009, do you just buy accuspark vac unit and just plug it in or is there anything else that has to been done

I will also be buying the accuspark kit at some point then, points version though, i like points

Why do people get rid of vac advance units
