Interior Light Wiring

  1. Managed to get the interior light in our bus working, however, it only comes on if the lights are on and you have a door open? Anyone know why? I'm thinking a dodgy earth somewhere...

However, I was thinking of just running some new wiring from the roof to the switches on the doors, but was hoping someone could tell me how the cable is routed down to the switches on the doors?

  2. You mean the cab light?

Should come on when the doors are opened (if the light switch is in that position), whether the lights are on or not. Or...on all the time if the light switch is in the "on" position.

The wiring runs up the RHS windscreen pillar then across the cab rear roof to the light. It's a b*gger to pull any more cabling through without taking the headlining down.

If you pull the cab light out, what wiring have you got behind it? Should have a red (from memory) that's live all the time.

  3. Thanks for your reply!

I like a challenge... so might give the new wiring a try.

Yeah the cab light, above the walkway between the two seats.

I have a red perm live, a green wire, and a green/white wire.

The wiring at the door switches is brown or brown/white. Should it be the same colour all the way up?

I was thinking of wiring it in with new earths, as I know the live is fine. I was going to run new wires to the door switches as one connector, and then another earth straight to the roof above the light. Would that then work correctly?

    Colour wiring diagrams here.

The Late bay ones are spaghetti to a novice, but not much changed over the years, so look at a e.g. 72 and find it laid out in a bus shape.
