Insurance - parts during restoration/ after resto

  1. So We had a wee bin fire a few weeks ago, and thankfully the House and Garage were pretty much unfouched (thank god)

I was stupid and put some ash from a fire that we left from the day before - was certain it was out - no heat at all on base of fire pit :( (I've never done this before and will not be doing it again) in the green bin. Knob. I know...

Anyway, next to the fire that wiped out all 4 bins, was a spare side window and rubber for the bus, and a couple of old calipers. Long and short of it is the parts aren't covered by our house insurance. It turns out that they aren't covered at all - even if they are locked up the the garage and stolen from there!!!
The policy deems them as car accessories and these aren't covered by the contents insurance, and you cant add any additional cover on too. Our insurance is through the AA and is covered by AXA.

Just thought I'd post as a bit of a warning more than anything else.

Does anyone have cover for parts??

I empty the ash from our multifuel stove into a small metal bin and empty that into the green bag (we don't do wheelies) the night before bin day. The number of times it melts the bag! It can quietly smoulder for days.

Sorry about the insurance. Illegitmates! Why can't you cover car parts? Next time, leave the whole bus next to the bin and you might be able to claim then!

Interesting does that mean trailers roof racks etc aren’t covered

those parts are worth enough to make a claim though surely ?

  4. I've just been onto Just Kampers, because my insurance is through them, to check on my dismantled T2. They have said that the vehicle in kit form is insured provided that the parts would fit on, but if you had say a spare engine this would not be covered on the standard policy. They do, however, have a policy that does cover spares.
