Insurance agreed value

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by b0dyr0ck2006, Jun 27, 2013.

  1. My insurance is due and I'm debating asking for the agreed value to be raised. They say its on current market value, well if you look about most of the 9k buses are in a right state. Mine is clean, rust free, fresh paint and interior almost finished. Add to that its a twin slider which seem to be rarer than chickens teeth!

What sort of value should I ask for?

I'll get some more pictures up later

Presumably you just need a valuation on the vehicle and that gives you market value.

I asked my insurance to increase value to 9k which they did but without the valuation they will only pay market value.

  3. I already have an agreed valuation with them for 9k but looking about at the current market 'values' perhaps that's too cheap.

    Plus it's a twin slider ;)

  5. I'd agree with that (no disrespect to the van ;)).

I've often wondered whether, in event of a write-off, whether these companies actually would pay the "agreed" value.

i got a certificate with cherished stating it was 15k - i'll be *******ed off if it got nicked or burned and i didn't get it, why wouldn't they pay - they asked for photos etc to prove it's worth.

  7. I assume they have to - unless they can prove that the photos you submitted mis-represented the condition of the vehicle (for example, when it disintegrates into a pile of rust and filler on impact).

  8. No disrespect taken guys. I know it's actually worth 9k, as most of ours are. But the 'current market value' due to supply and demand would suggest its worth more like 13-15k.

Ridiculous I know, but have a browse about at the usual places and see the prices of stuff currently for sale. Then see if you can find a twin slider! Lol

agree - the value is for a direct replacement of the vehicle.

  10. Hmmm. We assume...

  11. mines 12K and they didnt want any photos or anything. I agree 13-15K in todays market because you know darn well even then they will only pay out 9-10 if your lucky :( hence why i over valued mine.

Look around. Anything over about £8k is sitting around unsold for months.
The days of £15k bays have gone as there isn't the demand.

Isn't that what they call 'scene tax'? ;)

  15. being an panel van before you change it and twin slider people not really want that as make having layout in side harder to do i say be good to get 9000 for it mate

Exactly. No-one has the money so there isn't the demand.
I'm sure it'll be back but its going to be a good few years off.
Only a problem if you're selling really.

  17. Ive just re insured my T2 pickup with an agreed value payout of £16.5k - That was with adrian flux classic motor policy. I know their are not so many around and I have spent a fortune on getting it back on the road, but I must say - any bay in good condition and tax exempt - you gotta be looking at £11-£12k at least. Anything very special even more.

And they wanted lots of photos inside and out before they agreed that too

    £16.5k for a pick-up? Got any pictures?
As I said, look at the adverts even on here. Very tidy looking buses at £7k sitting around for months.

I just checked the completed listings on ebay and not one sold one came up. Prices vary.
I don't think it's a price problem as cheap good ones don't appear to be selling either.
Maybe most people who want one have one and/or the crud weather last summer has put people off.

  20. I think the price of bays has suffered for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the market has been flooded with cheap rot free imports, you can get a good van for 3-4k if you look around and don't mind interior/mechanical work. You can spend that on repair panels for some UK vans;) Secondly, the kind of person who buys bay vans are the type who will be feeling the squeeze. The classic car market on the whole is in extremely good shape because people are scared of putting money into financial markets and are buying things like cars instead, but the sort of people who can spend 250k on a car don't get shafted like the rest of us.
