Installing slide door bushes.

  1. Ok so my slide door is sagging and I was advised to change the 4 bushes in the hinge. I have just stripped the hinge off the bus and discovered that large alloy hinge needs to have the current bushes punched out to replace with the new brass ones as per the instructions that came with the new bushes from jk.

The problem I have got is that bushes don't seam to be removeable as the alloy is a complete one piece. Has any one had any experience with this. Bit concerned now as I need to get my sliding door back on ASAP, I was hoping to got the harewood house:(

  2. In the true spirit of vw cost cutting, they did away with the bushes on later vans, so once the hinge wears that's your onions unfortunately. As it's a steel 'U' hinge moving in alloy castings, it'll be the alloy bits that wear(I know steel is technically an alloy, but you know what I mean, the aluminium bits). I noticed the other day that vw heritage are now stocking RHD hinge parts, but they are extremely expensive. I guess the other option might be to take the bushes to your local engineering firm and get them to machine the hinge parts so they fit? Might work!
