Rookie questions - How far gone can a bus be and still be saved - I know its a piece of string question but are there practical limits other than cost? Are welded sections more likely to rust quickly? Is there a checklist/plan of work for restorations out there? spike
Good question , i have watched blogs of people who have salvaged splittys from lakes etc , i suppose its all down to quality of repair , if you have small repairs and weld them up it can only be a matter of time before they come back ( imo ) , but if you replace that section then it could last longer than the og in theory. It isn't really a piece of string answer , its about the quality of the rebuild aand where the vehicle is stored /used afterwards .
re title I sort of (very willingly) inherited the van and now I'm wondering what the cost (tax) will be if I want to get it on the road ....but cant work on it myself. ...any voices of experience...? as i see it 3 options : 1. sell now with £2k panels and frame for project or panels/doors (body stripped and bottom half shot blasted). 2. get welding done and sell as primed rolling shell with engine/gbox/int/glass fittings etc 3. take it to completion. If selling any thoughts on best spots to advertise a 73 westfalia (RHD 4berth) ?- very rusty shell at rear but 95% of new JK frame and body parts included... Any welders out there looking for a project?
I think Spike means that he has inherited the van (great), but he's now found out that it's going to cost him a fortune to put right (not so great)
thanks for the thoughts folks. Sorry about the obscure head-scratch inducing title....is ebay the best place to sell if selling?
No here if your honest and up front about it. I mean its cheaper and people are less likely to mess you about. Put plenty of pics up too !!.
as a fella , an old bloke at that who likes to reduce all to the minimum , may i say " how deep are your pockets ?how big/wide is your vision ?" do you love said /any vehicle that much?
