Indicators Issue

  1. Hi everyone, I hope someone can point me in the right direction here- bad pun, I know sorry but I couldn't resist [IMG]. I've had a look through the previous posts, but while there are plenty of indicator issues, I can't see anyone with the same problem I had.
Yesterday, while dropping off the camper for the missus and kids I came across an issue with the indicators. It wasn't the only issue, the throttle linkage came off on a roundabout as well but thats another story.
Anyway the indicators stopped working about 10 mins into the trip. Now here's the puzzling part, every time I went to turn them on the alternator light came on. Could this possibly be a bad earth in the dash? New alternator, new voltage regulator and belt tension is fine. I did a few basic tests on the way over and when at the campsite, like running the lights for 10 mins or so to see if that would force the alternator light on which it didn't even on tick over. I didn't have my voltage tester with me so couldn't check actual voltage.
Also hazards are still working ok, so I assume the relay is working ok.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  2. Earlier this year my indicators suddenly stopped working whilst on a supermarket run, also the fuel gauge suddenly registered empty and the generator light came on and stayed on. Hazards, headlights, wipers all worked.
Once home and upon starting the engine there was no generator or oil pressure light.
The problem was the fuse, #12, (I have a '79 Pick Up) had blown, but wasn't obvious giving it a cursory look - there was a very fine split in the silver material at one end which only showed up under a strong light.

  3. mine did the same...it was the relay under the fuse box and the connection was loose

  4. Cheers:thumbsup:, I'll investigate those when I can get near it again.

  5. We had loss of indicators, which turned out to be due to the hazard light switch - but turning the hazards on and off a few times fixed it (for now). Probably dirty contacts in our switch.

  6. I have some dirty contacts but that's another story
    :)

  7. And here was me thinking that dirty contacts were a good thing;).
Replacing fuse 11 did the trick for me, but now the generator/alternator light isn't coming on when the ignition comes on- further investigation needed. Thanks for the help:thumbsup:
