Indicator seals- which are best?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Clubs, Feb 18, 2024.

  1. We had heavy rain last night didn't we? Was some wet inside the van by steering column on floor and water in the well at the bottom of front panel. I don't have kick panels fitted yet. First I suspected the windscreen seal, but upon investigation...water was coming in seal at the top of indicator running around that ad dropping onto headlamp bucket, tracking along a wire and dropping off. I fitted the original style seals on the indicators, but have seen foamy self adhesive ones for sale. Opinions please...which are best? Or are they both adequate but different?

Same here. I had foamy self adhesive seals on there but they got damaged by removal of the indicator a few times.

Water was getting all the way across behind the front panel.

I have bought self adhesive 4mm foam sheet and cut out two seals for each side. One sticks to the plastic bucket bit, facing the body paint. The other one is stuck to and faces forward from the plastic bucket.

I also had to replace the self tapper fixing holes with M4 rivnuts as one of the fixing self tapper screws had stripped the hole in the front panel.

Oh and I emptied a load of water out of the indicator housing too.

  3. Sorry to hear you have same issue. The foam sounds like a plan. Thanks.

It seems to have really slowed down the leak - heavy rain, nothing in the usual place since replacing with new foam .
I also used a couple of M4 rivnuts to replace a stripped self tapper hole in the front panel, as otherwise one corner would not stay flat on the panel.
