    Hi,

    Mybus is 1976 t2.
Does anyone know, should the indicators self cancel?
If they don't, as mine don't, is it an not fail?
    Thanks

  2. Yes, they should - Bays aren't that primitive ;). If they don't, likely that your steering column surround has slipped down away from the steering wheel. The gap should be about 3mm.

OK thanks. Sounds a straightforward job yo put right.

Or if it’s like mine the small plastic sliders in the switch that the spring locates on have broken. And if you mean MOT fail then no, the indicators don’t need to self-cancel.

  5. Mine have not cancelled for 5 MOT'S now!

  6. If this is the case (as mine was) you may be able to repair -

There is a metal "W" sort of shape clip that locates over two slidey-peg things. These activate a little tab that pokes out, and when you turn the steering wheel back to centre, this tab flicks the indicator off. If the plastic hook bits are broken, you may be able to repair using a very small self tapping screw. Just make sure that the sliders still move up and down correctly.

Unfortunately one of the plastic slider bits has gone walkabout.:)

  8. ahh - bit of a no go then. New indicator required!

Nah, it’s been like it for few years and I never relied on the self-cancel anyway.

42 quid plus shipping for one of those plastic bits – I don’t think so. And ebay wouldn’t let me change my address to France so I don’t even have an account now – same with PayPal.

I hate to admit it but I paid the £42 and only used the tiny plastic hook things - the rest is in a cupboard somewhere.

Having OCD whereby if something is supposed to work then it's got to work is an expensive disorder to have.

  12. I could perhaps do with an indicator where the markings haven't worn away if you were able to locate the remains of yours - let me know what you'd want for it :)

That’s a bit worrying if you don’t know which way is right or left without a picture.:D

ebay wanted me to register with ebay fr but I didn’t want to do that and PayPal wanted me to close my UK account and open another in France but I don’t want PayPal linked to my French account – or any account for that matter. I just don’t buy anything from anyone that wants payment by PayPal and I’ve only had a couple of problems in the last 4 or 5 years.

  17. I've just asked mrslef ,they both think we are still in England...:D

I just assumed she changed it...

    my bad...:hattip:

  18. Was talking to a 68/72 bay owner and he told me he had been looking for a 68/72 bay indicator stalk and they are very rare and always over £100 and bought one from a auto jumble for £120. I have got used to mine not working and just seems natural to cancel out after turning even on our brand new car...its now a habit.

A good driver will manually cancel his indicator when its function is no longer required, not when the stalk tells him to!
