I'm fitting Electronic Ignition today. Any advice greatly received.

  1. Ive ordered and recieved Pertronix Flamethrower elec ignition, ht leads and coil. I own an accuspark strobe also. I want to fit these today and have read the appropriate bit in the manual and also posts on here. It would be nice to have a 'how to' on this.

I'm fairly capable with a spanner but i havent done this on a dub before. Done plenty on old lambrettas regarding Elec Ign but not these. So before i go out and fettle away blindly. I thought i'd post on here for some tips, tricks, bodges and advice regarding said procedure. Looks fairly straightforward. My pulley has timing marks.

TDC, 70deg & 270deg. Its a 1600 TP. 009 diz. My main query is how to get to 800-900 rpm. TDC is via pencil down no1 (same as lammy :) )

    Pic of my beast...

  2. elec ign and coil fitted. My kit came with a dizzy but my old one is genuine 009 so i swapped the modules out of the new and put them in the old. Would you use the new dizzy cap or the old one? Same too with the rotor arm.

She started btw. now just checking timing with strobe. How do i know if i have a ballast resister? Ta.

  3. not sure what your marks on the pully are but its 7 degrees and 27 degrees not 70 and 270 and i might be misstaken but they are atdc not btdc . 009`s need to be timed at 30-32 btdc at 3000rpm and what ever tick over is thats it . Genuine 009 still not as good as a svda dizzy 8)

  4. I believe, now ive set my timing up correct, that its 7° and 27°. I checked and i have a 180mm Ø pulley and did the sums and the marks were correctly scribed. It does look like 70 & 270 though. :)

When i initially set it to the idle at 7° it felt a bit lumpy. I then did the 3500 and it looked like it was a bit too much to the right of the 27° so i adjusted the dizzy to bring it inline(ish) and then rechecked the idle and reset it. It then ran smoothly and the full advance 27 was spot on too. TBH i played it more by ear and feel with the dizzy. I hope this is what everyone else does to a certain extent as the marks line up and the engine feels a hell of a lot smoother than it did before.

(btw i know its 7.5° etc but its marked 7. The distance was correct though)
