Ignition Switch/Wiring

  1. Help

Brought a replacement ignition barrel with the white block on the bottom, this one has 4 normal sized terminals and one smaller one, but our wiring plug has just got the four standard size spades in the plug?

The ignition turns on/off but it won't power up the starter motor?

Guessing this means they changed the white box on the bottom of the ignition switch from different years?

If you take the plug of the back of the switch and you bridge it across you can get it it turn over so we know the problem is with the white box.

Anyone able to help and advise us what to do?

  2. if you know which terminals are which you could hard solder the connections, use a different spade (if necessary) or bridge the terminals with a jumper (again...if necessary)

the terminals inside connector blocks usually have a tang which you can press with a small screwdriver.....the cable/terminals can then be pulled out if needs be

if you look at the above pic, the tang sticks up from the widest part of the spade.....some differ but they all tend to work in the same way....

  3. Looked up the switches and they don't appear to of changed in years so guess that means the ignition switch on the second hand ignition we brought must be gone :( We know the socket is good otherwise it wouldn't work when you bridge it across.

Replacement switches have six pins on, so five pins can't be the issue.

  4. you can test the switch itself with a multimeter....check for continuity (audible or Ohms) between each terminal in the different key positions
