Idle speed adjuster screw on a Solex

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by The Avenger, Aug 13, 2013.

  1. Would much appreciate someone telling me where the idle speed adjustment screw is on a Solex carb.

    Cheers in advance.

  2. which solex carb is it? single or two like on a type 4 motor

  3. I have twin Solex's , if you do the idle screw is on the left carb. the large screw on the top rear corner. (It adjusts the idle speed for both carb.'s when used).

  4. Only have the one:(

There ate 2 on LHS, the small is mix, the larger is speed.

  6. ^whs. The screw on the fast idle cam is where the idle speed adjustment isn't ;)

  9. Had a tinker this evening and the bus still idles with the screw wound in all the way. Guess this means a vacuum leak?

I have spotted three small and one large vacuum hose take-off on the carb all of which have been blanked off with a piece of pipe with a screw in the end.

Again just guessing but the large one is for a servo, one of the small ones for a vac advance dizzie (I have 009) , one for the flap in the newer air box but can anyone please tell me what the other one is for?

This is obviously not the original carb.

    Thanks in advance.

Assuming the choke is working, the throttle stop screw may have been erroneously used to set the tickover. This was the way to do it on earlier pict carbs found on beetles and splitties and old habits...
If it is, unscrew it until there's a gap then wind it in until it just holds a fag paper. Try the throttle with you finger. If you feel the throttle plate sticking on the inside of the carb, wind the screw in 1/4 turn at a time until it only just doesn't stick. Then try the mixture and speed screws.

  11. Thanks Zed, where may I find the throttle stop screw?

it's the one on the arm sitting against the fast idle cam. The bit circled.

If it's screwed in too far, it keeps the throttle too far open so it ticks over on throttle instead of the idle circuit.

  13. Brilliant - cheers:D
