Macca reunited with his Hofner Violin Bass after 51 years. Imagine nicking it from the back of a van in London and realising what you’ve done when you see it in your front room The Cavern, Hamburg, Shea Stadium… Can you think of any more iconic guitars than that ? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68312355.amp
I'd nominate Eddies Frankenstrat for THE most iconic guitar of all time For guitars built/configured in a very customised to their user - not sure if you can beat: Peter Green's 'Greeny' Malcolm Youngs 'The Beast' The one Bryan May plays. Macca's base, I think, was off the shelf - the ones above are revered because they dictated their bands sound. One of the best guitar stories for me is Billy Corgan's Gish guitar
Peter Green's Les Paul, Greenway..now owned by Kirk Hammet.. Gibson has built Kirk Hammett a 'Greeny' 1959 Les Paul - gearnews.com
And Robbo's (Thin Lizzy) and his 1959 Les Paul, Auld Witch (?) which got stolen and subsequently found years later.
A personal favorite is Phil Collens Bela guitar It was the guitar from the 1987's Animal and Pour Some Sugar on me videos - he'd lent it to a rock museum for a couple of decades, and is now back in use. Its day glow.
Ralph Mctell I saw him in concert a few years back . He asked "do you like songs out of the charts " He replied " great because heres one , been out of the charts for forty years "Have you seen the old man ,in the closed down market" ............"
