we seem to have this type of post yearly, i'll say what i usually say - but rarely do... why should i be told by halmark cards that on a certain day every year i need to buy my mrs summat that i'm told is romantic? and also why does it fall on the man (most of the time) to spunk a shed load of cash he hasn't got for a day he doesn't belive in? i'm really sick of the amount of "days" in this country where i'm told someone should get summat for nothing, do you all love your partner a little bit more on feb 14th?
I've been with mrs TBR only 18 months but I tell her everyday how wonderful she is and I love her. I don't need Clinton Cards and Interflora to do it for me for just 1 day a year.
Bern, I notice your post says the men of Yorkshire are PLANNING to spend the most. In my experience Yorkshiremen PLAN to spend a lot of money but are then flummoxed by their short arms and deep pockets. (Insert big laughing smilie here)
So you think it might all be talk then I go with Ricky on this one myself. We don't do anything special, really no need as we approach our 35th anniversary ......
I'm fairly sure Hallmark Cards had nothing to do with it.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine's_Day#Historical_facts
I agree with ya Ricky, I hate the pressure men particularly are under on days like this, when Like many, I tell the missus everyday several times that I love her, I surprise her most weeks with flowers or her favourite chocolate etc, I dont need a day to dictate love to me. Unfortunately its mostly media and commercialization of days like this that cheapen them, all these over dramatized days of the Year and our Countries day St Georges Day is still not a Bank Holiday where St Patrick's day is for Ireland! Does my head in! She'll be getting something from me... but money cant buy it
not doing a "baa, humbug" here, but on an ASDA refit years ago a manager told me that pound for storespace ,they make more money from selling cards than any other store product ,as he summed up that opinion "why do you think we have so much of this store given over to displaying cards, and what we pay for them and then the mark up", and once you see it from that position ,makes sense.
We went to IKEA yesterday and as we walked in there was a notice board say ( something like) Spice up uh our life Then a curry/balti menu as and this was for yes you guessed it Feb 14th so if you really want to treat your partner proper like go to ikea
