How to tint Raptor Liner?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Jean-François, May 3, 2020.

  1. Hi there,

As most suppliers are closed due to Covid, I don't know how to tint Raptor liner to coat the wheel tubs on my bus? I can still buy it on Ebay, but what kind of paint to use to tint it without messing the product?

I searched on the forum and a few people on here seem to have use it.

    Thanks,

    JF

Aye that I can! I just tinted it with 5% 2K solid colour. Came out lovely.

    From the data sheet:
“For best results use the solvent based toners from basecoat mixing systems. RAPTOR can also be tinted with solvent based basecoats and solvent based 2K solid colour isocyanate cured paints.”

As always make sure you’ve got adequate PPE for spraying 2K.

Have a read of the data sheet here: https://www.u-pol.com/files/6535/rltrsm-TDS-EN-UK

@JamesLey can you remember how many bottles you used to do the underside?

I only did the wheel arches. I think it was 2 bottles.
Still got a bottle or two which I might use on the entirety of the bug underside if it’s still useable when I get to that point.

I’ve got the 4/5 litre kit that Upol do, but know I’m going to probably need double to cover most of the underside.

I was thinking something like that, as I used 4 litres, doing a friends van, just the cab area, forward of the B posts.

Depending on how good a finish, what colour it is already etc, but at least one per arch, 2 if completely bare

    2-4 front 2/4 middle 2 -3 rear Corners etc

ps, it takes longer than you expect and is proper messy , wear goggles and a proper mask

  11. Great!

I can use some leftover of the body paint to tint it
    .
Looks like tough stuff for that kind of job.

    Thanks ;-)

I once got a tin of spirit based boat paint for the inside of a poptop. It was blindingly white. Short on options I sprayed Halfords style green paint into the can. Totally unsuitable I know. They didn't mix together obviously but I just kept stirring frantically as I painted and it worked!
