how to remove the 'Y' sections of the heater?

  1. heya, Does anyone have any info on how to remove the "y" sections of the heating?

mine look ok from the bottom but im pretty sure theres going to be a rust hole in the top.

i can see its been welded onto the big heater tube that runs the length of the bus, with a half inch seam.

is it welded anywhere else as it seems pretty solid.

    Cheers,
    carl.

  2. I'm fairly sure it's just welded to the crossmember. I've been replacing a cargofloor this week and crossmember and once it was cut out the y bit wobbled around loads.

  3. Unfortunately, it's pretty much part of the rear of the van. Floor up to fix it, I'd think.

 ihave same dilema , i was thinking of sawing through it at the engine side of the cross member then repairing any holes then concockting some kind of sleve to wrap around and hold the two halves in place with a couple of jubilee clips or perhaps pop rivetts . Anyone tried such a repair/solution ?

I've done this in the last few months, nightmare, and I was lucky if you can call it that, as my cargo floor was compleatly rotted. the tops of the y tubes required holes fixing and I had to cut the tubes off with the old 1mm disc. then welded the holes and re-welded the y back together. its is spot welded to the rear beam but I also had to cut the rear angled part of the cargo floor to get the compleated y tube back in place. luckily I also had the bus on a rotisserie as well. I think if I had to do this again and was'nt too concerned about originallity I would look at flexible tube connections. Good luck oooh also I did the Band Q insulated jobby when I insulated the whole heater tubes. highly recommended

^ i've got one, they come in 2 sections(top and bottom) with a lip on each if that makes sense
you put the bottom in first and then slide the top in over it. i used sikaflex to fix mine together. its a good piece of kit, but still an ass to put in even with the floor out. the bloke is slow in my experience, but a good product nevertheless!

  11. I bought mine from there, great product,.. But a swine to fit with everything in situ.

Dog is right, it comes in two pieces, top and bottom. But I had to cut cut it into SIX and splice it back together with 50 or 60 pipe..

I also used sikaflex sealant, and then wrapped the whole thing with pipe lagging... :)
