How low can you go on adjusters

  1. Afternoon All, Appreciate any advise on this one. Just wondering how low you can drop a bus on adjusters before I start getting serious issues with steering etc if i will get any at all. Basically I have been evicted from my current garage and have sourced another but it is literally 2 or 3 cm to tall to go in :) sods law. So it is down on adjusters a bit at the moment but i am sure i have them set about half way so if i was to take it another spline down at the back and drop the adjusters would I encounter any massive issues.

Eventually the shocks start banging and the tyres start rubbing on the arches and the anti roll bar scalps the road in jerry-built Irish retail parks until it gets bent. Oh and take off the bump stops or the suspension will be hard.

10cm is easy. Mine is at that level. Given a choice I would only drop half that but mine was cut and twist so its fixed.

At some point, the ball joints will hit the end of the travel. Whether they do this before the tyres hit the arches depends on the size of the tyres, it's a close thing and hard to set up in the garage without a huge weight on top of the van.

Recieved wisdom is "don't go mad" whatever that means. You will read that your wheels will fall off due to the stress of the ball joint hitting the end and this does make sense - just a matter of time until fatigue sets in.

2 splines is as far as you can go without proper engineering If you level that at the front with adjusters I think it's too low. You'd be far better off with flipped spindles/adjusters combination.

I don't think it would adversely effect the steering apart from when the tyres hit the tubs.

  4. Cheers Guys, I have no intention on going mad. The 2 splines at the back and level it sounds like the best option. So the question is how far is 2 spines im not sure what it is down at the moment i dint do it. anyone got any pics of 2 splines down :).

Looks down one spline to me. :)

Some, myself included, would say that's a good height for a camper.

  8. Cheers Zed, I agree it is the ideal height rides so nice. But at the moment I really need to get it in a garage :) circumstances have changed alot over the past 2 months so am desperate to get it in storage, and i know desperate is never the best thing :) only other option is to sell and well that's not happening so ill have a go at 2 splines and level worst case i waste a weekend and have to put it back. thanks for all the advise it is much appreciated.

Let the tyres down a bit - you said 20-30mm too high?

  10. Is it just to store it?
If so either do as Zed says and let the tyres down or you could remove the poptop

  11. It is just to store it really. However It will be going in and out a bit but i have considered the tyres just have to pump them up every time. Pop top off was another option :) was considering replacing for a paris roof :)
